EXISTING CONDITIONS - TRAFFIC

The project team collected existing Average Daily Traffic (ADT) counts at the intersection of Lake/Wilmette/11th St. to analyze traffic operations.

EXISTING CONDITIONS - SAFETY

The project team reviewed crash data along the project corridor from 2018 - 2022. Over that five-year period, there were 93 total crashes. The Illinois Department of Transportation categorized the intersection of Lake/Wilmette/11th St. as High Safety Tier, indicating a high opportunity for improvement. Approximately 34% of all project-area crashes occurred at that intersection.

At this multi-legged intersection, there are 80 conflict points, or locations where vehicle travel paths intersect. (A typical four-leg intersection has 24 vehicle conflict points.)

Multiple legs at the intersection also lead to driver confusion on right-of-way and reduce driver sight distance.

More than half of the crashes at the intersection are related to the 11th St. legs.
